What is That Strange Noise? by Karen Carr & Piper Andersen

What would you do if you heard strange noises coming from the back of your car? Well, Piper and Grandma play this fun game, which when turned into a book, is a bunch of noisy and zany fun.

What is That Strange Noise? by Karen Carr & Piper Andersen is such a silly and entertaining book that you can’t help but enjoy it. Based upon a game the author and her granddaughter play, Grandma hears strange noises coming from the back seat of her car. Little Piper shares the names of each animal, one by one, asking for permission for the animals to join them along their journey. Soon the car is filled with a variety of animals, making it a delightful trip indeed.

The illustrations from one of my favorite artists, K. C. Snider, make What is That Strange Noise? even more of a joy to share with your youngster. They will truly want to read this book over and again. It might even inspire some made up games of their own.

Drewsilla the Shelter Puppy by Karen Carew Oakes

If you like cute animal stories, you’ll want to grab a copy of Drewsilla the Shelter Puppy by Karen Carew Oakes.

After an accident leaves Drewsilla and her siblings orphaned, they are brought to the local shelter by a kind stranger. One after the other gets adopted, until the only one left is Drewsilla. Every time someone visits the shelter, she hides. Until the day the Johnsons walk in.

Drewsilla the Shelter Puppy is a touching story of how a shelter puppy finds her forever home. There are a lot of neat aspects to this story. It highlights the kindness of strangers, the hard work of shelter volunteers, and the difference it can make to humans and animals when a special bond is created. Not only would this be a heartwarming story to share with children, it would also be an entertaining way to introduce young people to what is involved in puppy care.

This truly is a sweet story.

Snow is on the way, and as Hedgie trundles around the farm all his friends tell him of the winter-time fun he will miss as he hibernates–Icicles decorating the chicken coop! Lisa making snowmen! The pond turned to slippery ice! It sounds so amazing, Hedgie decides to stay awake instead of going to his burrow. But then a snowstorm starts. Luckily, Lisa finds him and brings him inside so Hedgie gets to see the wonders of winter from inside the cozy house.

Coming in September: Giraffe Problems by Jory John

Can you guess what’s making this giraffe self-conscious? Could it be . . . HIS ENORMOUS NECK?? Yes, it’s exactly that–how on earth did you figure it out?

Cyrus the giraffe can’t understand why his neck is as long and bendy and, well, ridiculous as it is. No other animal has a neck this absurd. He’s tried disguising it, dressing it up, strategically hiding it behind bushes–honestly, anything you can think of, he’s tried.
