K.M. Daughters Releases Three Classic Children’s Stories by their Dad, Michael Lynch

K.M. Daughters is the award-winning sister writing team of Kathie (Lynch) Clare and Patricia (Lynch) Casiello. They have recently released three classic children’s story based upon manuscripts left to them by their father, Michael. These were stories their father created for them. They are proudly sharing them with young readers for the first time.

The Slippers With The Turned Up Toes is a classic bedtime or any-time story for children of all ages. Young readers will be enchanted with the characters they’ll meet in this story: the unforgettable leprechaun, Magee, who turns blarney into magic to help a young girl; his adventurous son, Timothy who runs away to join a circus, billed as the shortest man in the world; and Joanne, the sweet girl who finally believes in herself, the most powerful magic of all.

In The Twilight Twins, you’ll meet Bonny and Johnny, who visit Patti Woodward one night when, as usual, Patti refuses to go to sleep at bedtime. The Twilight Twins take Patti on an unforgettable journey that chases away Patti’s fears of darkness forever.

Young readers will delight in the wickedly funny, and forgetful witch, Sasperilda; her unusual sisters, Hilda and Matilda; and their clever cat, George. Sasperilda matches wits with the powerful Great Genie and the ruler of the kingdom of Blarney, King Dennis, while hilariously mixing up the words in her magic spells and brewing up mysterious, exploding brews in her cauldron. Who would believe that the fearsome Sasperilda might help humanity?

Michael (Mickey) Lynch was born in Bronx, New York, in 1924. He was the second of four children born to Irish immigrants, Mary and John Lynch. He served with honor as a United States paratrooper during World War II. After the war ended, he married his childhood sweetheart, Katherine (Kay) and raised two daughters. He died in 1970 when his children were teenagers. He was a house painter by trade.

Katrina and Winter: Partners in Courage by Nancy Stewart

Read the inspiring story of a young girl who finds a special friend and goes on to become a role model for others.

Katrina and Winter: Partners in Courage by Nancy Stewart is the authorized biography of Katrina Simpkins. Born with a birth defect, Katrina walks with the assistance of a prosthetic leg. But she yearns to be a normal girl. On a family trip to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, Florida, Katrina discovers Winter, a dolphin who was fitted with a prosthetic tail after being caught in a crab trap. Katrina’s relationship with Winter soon evolves into a way to help others with special needs.

Nancy Stewart and I have worked together to promote the first two books in her Bella and Britt picture book series. Here, the award-winning author turns her attention to non-fiction, sharing the inspirational story of Katrina Simpkins. You can read a post here that shares how she came to be the writer for this authorized biography.

This is such a wonderful story, which is complemented by stunning photographs. The reader watches as Katrina evolves from a shy child to confident young lady who has inspired many. I especially enjoyed the close relationship between Katrina and her sister, Sara. It’s touching to see how much her sister believes in her.

I had only heard a bit about Winter’s story before this book. It definitely made me want to learn more.

Kids of all ages will enjoy this moving story.

Animal Sound Mix-up by Connie Arnold

Wouldn’t it be confusing if you heard a donkey say bow-wow? Would you scratch your head if a monkey said moo? How about some squawking pigs? Seen any of those lately? In this silly, rhyming story, Connie Arnold asks readers what it would be like if all the animal sounds got mixed up.

I like books that can be zany, but still have an excellent message. Animal Sound Mix-up is definitely one of those books. While it’s light-hearted, by the time the reader gets to the end, they realize God’s hand in creation is quite evident. Animals speak the way they do because He made them each to speak in their own unique way. It’s a nice message. A different take on the power of the Creator than I’ve seen before.

Arnold’s rhymes are perfectly matched by the lovely artwork of Kit Grady. All types of animals come alive with Grady’s colorful images. Any of these illustrations would make lovely murals for a child’s room. I only wish she didn’t live so far away from me.  🙂

Animal Sound Mix-up is a fun book with a great message. Christian homes with youngsters will enjoy this book.

Jekyll Says…Good Deeds Cats Do, That You Should Too! By D.C. Blackbird

Jekyll the cat has a book full of advice for kids of any age in Jekyll Says…Good Deeds Cats Do, That You Should Too! by D.C. Blackbird.

From waking up happy to getting plenty of rest, from eating healthy meals to dressing your best, and from being a hard worker to being proud of who you are, this book is filled with tons of advice. Inspired by the real life Jekyll, D.C. Blackbird immortalized his beloved pet in a rhyming book that is helpful and fun.

Young children will enjoy the flow of the prose as they move from section to section. The story is so sweet and the rhymes flow so well, it’s possible they will forget they are learning anything. But learn they shall the importance of being clean and being someone’s hero, and so many other things. Adults could heed Jekyll’s advice too.

While I like that this book has wide appeal, I wonder if it would be better to have two different series going:  one for kids and one for adults. Why would a child think about dressing his best? While being a hard worker is important, arriving early and not being lazy might be concepts that are beyond a young child’s comprehension. Defending the helpless is something they won’t understand much at all, and children are the helpless in many situations.

The illustrations provided by Christine P. Flores are fabulous. Filled with bright colors and humor, they capture exactly who I felt Jekyll was as I read the book.

I would love to read more books in this series.
