Oscar Slimeglider is tired of being ordinary. He wants to be famous. So he visits the Wise Old Snail who tells him there is only one thing left to do. When the fairy godsnail appears to make his dreams come true, Oscar learns that he should be careful what he wishes for.
Is there a person on the face of the planet who hasn’t at one time or another wished he were different? Doesn’t the grass always look greener on the other side of the hill?
In Ordinary Oscar, one tiny snail who is tired of doing the same boring things every day, gets a lesson in the troubles that come with wishing to be different. Adkins has done a wonderful job with this book. Not only is it hilarious, it’s a great story. In 32 pages, she manages to show kids that being ordinary doesn’t mean you can’t have extraordinary moments.
My hat is off to Sam Hearn for the vibrant and silly illustrations that are the perfect complement to the story.
My seven-year-old and I have read Ordinary Oscar several times. You and your kids will too!
